Clouded Reveries (Aisling Trí Néallaibh)
A documentary about local poet and novelist Doireann Ní Ghríofa. This film by director Ciara Nic Chormaic is a beautifully shot and intimate portrayal of Doireann’s life and creative development.
Doireann Ní Ghríofa won Irish Book of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards for A Ghost in the Throat, and this film explores her processes, interests and influences. Her prose debut, A Ghost in the Throat, finds the eighteenth-century poet Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill haunting the life of a contemporary young mother, prompting the author to turn detective.
The Guardian review said: This is a text that glints with treasures, from ruminations on the connections between “stanza” and the Italian word for room, to descriptions of “a shiver-bright day” and the “buttery hellos” of nodding daffodils.
This event will feature a Q&A after the film screening when director Ciara Nic Chormaic will be in conversation with writer Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin.
