Literary Lunch

An annual highlight of the festival, this year the literary lunch on Sunday will feature Donal Ryan talking about his writing life and times and the influences that colour his work. In 2021 he became the first Irish writer to be awarded the Jean Monnet Prize for European Literature. His work has been adapted for stage and screen and translated into over twenty languages. His seventh book, The Queen of Dirt Island, was published by Doubleday in 2022 and became an instant number one bestseller.

Donal Ryan’s first novel, The Spinning Heart (2012), won the Guardian First Book Award and the EU Prize for Literature. It was also shortlisted for the IMPAC International Literary Award and longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. His other books include The Thing About December, a short story collection called A Slanting of the Sun, novels All We Shall Know and From a Low and Quiet Sea. Donal Ryan is a professor of creative writing at the University of Limerick.
