Athinsint ar rómáns meánaoiseach é Mis de chuid Biddy Jenkinson, tour-de-force amach is amach. Téann Mis, iníon le Dáire Déadgheal, le gealaigh nuair a thagann sí ar chorp a hathar ar pháirc an áir i ndiaidh Chath Fionntrá.
Caitheann sí trí chéad bliain ar Shlibh Mis i gCiarraí agus i beo ar shlad is ar chanablacht, dochar mór á dhéanamh aici don dúiche. Dála Shuibhne Geilt, gabhann sí cruth éin chuici féin, an crotach, an spideog, an charóg liath, an colm bán.
Gealtachas, foréigean, gnéas agus greann, saothar mealltach mistéireach. Cruthóidh Enda Reilly, cumadóir agus giotáraí, cúlra ceoil don údar le haghaidh an léimh bheo seo agus cruthóidh Margaret Lonergan íomhánna scanrúla ar scáileán.
Mis by Biddy Jenkinson is a tour-de-force retelling of an Irish medieval romance. Mis, the daughter of Dáire Déadgheal, goes mad when she finds her father’s body on the battlefield after Cath Fionntrá (The Battle of Ventry). She then spends three hundred years, to the great harm of the land, surviving on plunder and cannibalism on Sliabh Mis in Kerry. Like Mad Sweeney, she takes the form of birds – curlews, robins, scald crows, and white doves.
Writing in The Stinging Fly, critic Caitlín Nic Íomhair described Mis as ‘full blooded, compelling and even strangely alluring’ in its exploration of the ‘big four: madness, violence, sex and humour’. Biddy will read Mis to a live musical backdrop created by composer and guitarist Enda Reilly and screen projections by Margaret Lonergan.
