Fighting Words is a creative writing centre established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love to help children and young people discover and harness the power of their own imaginations and creative writing skills.  At its core, Fighting Words is also about something much broader and more inclusive. It is about using the creative practice of writing and storytelling to strengthen children and teenagers – from a wide range of backgrounds – to be resilient, creative and successful shapers of their own lives.

When your class comes to a Fighting Words workshop, you will spend the first part of the time working together as a group, creating a story, initially through role play and improvisation.

You will be encouraged to write in your own words and style, with leadership from a Fighting Words team member.

Then you will work independently, developing characters, setting and plot, adding dialogue and editing as you go. Participants have the opportunity to share their individual pieces of writing with the class, helped and encouraged by Fighting Words volunteer tutors.
