Gerard Hanberry is an award-winning poet, author and musician. His fourth collection of poems What Our Shoes Say About Us was published in 2014 by Salmon Poetry and he is currently completing his fifth collection.
He also writes non-fiction. His biography of Oscar Wilde and his family More Lives Than One – The Remarkable Wilde Family Through the Ages was published by The Collins Press in 2011. His most recent work is On Raglan Road – Great Irish Love Songs and the Women Who Inspired Them (The Collins Press/Gills, 2016). It combines his two great interests – music and literature. This book tells the story of the women who inspired Ireland’s well-loved songs such as ‘Grace’, ‘Nancy Spain’, ‘The Galway Girl’, ‘On Raglan Road’, ‘The Voyage’ and many more. Most recently Hanberry was invited by RTÉ to come on board as writer/researcher on RTÉ’s series ‘The Search for Ireland’s Favourite Folk Song’. He regularly gives illustrated talks including performances of the songs featured in the book ‘On Raglan Road’.
