Beyond Borders Book Club – Abdul Qayum Shafaq in conversation with Sarah Clancy
Join Abdul Qayum Shafaq, Policy Researcher with Lucy Michael Research, Training and Consultancy in Ireland, where he works on issues of equality, integration, human rights, and social inclusion, together with Sarah Clancy, for the final session of the 2025/2026 Beyond Borders Book Club.
Abdul Qayum Shafaq has selected The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini for this special discussion. Together, Sharaq and Sarah will explore the novel’s powerful themes of friendship, displacement, identity, guilt, redemption, and the enduring impact of conflict.
A former Assistant Professor at Samangan University in Afghanistan, a PhD Candidate in Business Administration, and a committed human rights advocate, particularly for women’s rights and girls’ education, Shafaq has contributed to major international research projects with organizations including USAID, UN Women, CARE International, Plan International, and the International Rescue Committee across Afghanistan, Nepal, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Niger, and beyond. His work has focused on women’s empowerment, gender equality, child protection, migration, and access to education. Passionate about books, learning, and dialogue, he believes in the power of research and storytelling to advance justice and social change.
Come along for an engaging and thought-provoking conversation as we conclude this year’s Beyond Borders Book Club series.
