A Talk on The work of Seamus Heaney with Gillian Chute
Seamus Heaney is regarded as one of the finest poets to come from Ireland. He was the author of over 20 volumes of poetry and criticism,and edited several anthologies. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995 “for works of lyrical beauty and ethical depth, which exalt everyday miracles and the living past.”
His work is notable for its evocation of Irish rural life and events in Irish history as well as for its exploration of myth. His books include Death of a Naturalist, Field Work, and Spirit Level.
In this event, Gillian Chute, of Gillian Chute Leaving Cert English will explore these themes and much more in an insightful talk. It will touch upon the work by Seamus Heaney that is part of the school curriculum and will delve into his use of language, image and metaphor.
