Gráinne O’Brien

When Gráinne started writing her book Solo, she didn’t really like poetry, which caused her trouble as she was now being inspired to write a poetic verse novel. She went looking for poetry in places outside of the poems and poets she learned about in school. In this interactive workshop, students can join Gráinne to discover how poetry can make us understand the world and ourselves better, and how we can be inspired by poems we never even knew existed.

Winner of the An Post Teen and Young Adult Book of the Year 2025 for her novel Solo, Gráinne brings a wealth of experience from over a decade in the book trade, including roles as a children’s book buyer at O’Mahony’s Booksellers and head buyer at Kenny’s Bookshop in Galway. She is also the founder of Rontu Literary Service and co‑founder of Silver Apples Magazine, supporting emerging writers and teaching creative writing at third level.

This workshop is suitable for secondary school class groups. Schools are invited to book via the library on  061 364266
