Our Sun, the nearest star

Our Sun has been an object of mystery, awe and fear since the dawn of mankind. While considered a god by many cultures, others saw it as an object to mark the passage of time. Today, we are no less in awe of the Sun, our nearest star, and study it from both Earth and from space. Join astronomer Tony O’Hanlon to learn about our Sun, what it means to live with a star, how do we learn about it and what the distant future holds for it. Using data and images from telescopes and astrophysical research, Tony will present an illustrated talk on this wonderous object, blending both science and the visual art of nature itself. In association with Astronomy Ireland.
This workshop is suitable for secondary school class groups. Schools are invited to book via the library.
