The Hare’s Corner – Jane Carkill, Catherine Cleary and Pranjali Bhave in conversation with Áine Bird
The Hare’s Corner – Making Space for Nature celebrates the quiet, hopeful revolution across Ireland, where people are creating space for nature to thrive. This beautifully crafted book by Catherine Cleary, co-founder of Pocket Forests, and poet Jane Clarke shares inspiring real-life stories from farmers, families, schools, and community groups, showing how small actions restore habitats and revive species in both rural and urban landscapes. Enchanting illustrations by Jane Carkill and striking photography invite readers to reconnect with wild spaces and consider creating their own.
Named after the traditional practice of leaving field corners for wildlife, The Hare’s Corner highlights resilience, renewal, and the wellbeing that comes from letting nature in. Contributors include award-winning poet Jane Clarke, Catherine Cleary, and illustrator Jane Carkill. Mary Robinson notes, “Every patch of land holds the potential for renewal.”
At this event, Jane Carkill, Catherine Cleary and Pranjali Bhave, in conversation with Dr Áine Bird, discuss the inspiration, creative process, and ways for individuals to take action for nature. Pranjali Bhave, with a background in life sciences and natural history communications, coordinated Burrenbeo’s Hare’s Corner biodiversity initiative and is now pursuing a PhD on its impact. Dr Bird, CEO of Burrenbeo Trust, brings years of experience in place-based learning and community engagement.
